Good Tuesday Morning.
A helpful tip from one of the calmer parts of the Tinaverse:
Relax your jaw, deep breathe in till you can’t, slowly exhale, in again, exhale..... I feel better, I hope you do too.
On Friday evening, the nation learned of the passing of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the second woman to serve on the Supreme Court and long-time advocate for women’s rights. She was 87.
Her passing also created a vacancy on the Supreme Court. We’ll talk about that today. Click on the Let’s Talk button to get started.
42 days until Election Day.

Last week, we discussed the reports of President Trump making disparaging comments about members of the military. (The White House has denied the reports.) We received two comments from members of the military:
To the person who said trump has done "more for the military" than any other president... are you military? What exactly has he done? As someone who IS military, I would love to see how much they know about the reallocation of funds from military programs to the wall - loss of on post child care, crumbling infrastructure and moldy on post housing that was never renovated because the allocated funds were rerouted to trumps 3 miles of ineffective wall. Trump is ACTIVELY losing support among current military members - yet these old boomer vets keep voting for him, making us look bad. Ugh, I am so sick of trumpeters trying to lean on his "patriotism" and "support of the military" when he very clearly is an abomination and disgrace to this country and the office he holds.
To those who disregard Trump's negative comments towards the military because he's done so much good for the military ... I ask you to truly consider what he's done for me as a military officer ... Has he disrespected POWs (Yes)? Has he decreased my deployments (NO)? Has he increased my pay (No more than what has been standard over the past 3 presidents)? Has he helped with my benefits (no)? Has he increased awareness of the difficulty of military life and lessened the gap between civilians and military members (absolutely not)? Has he increased care for and awareness of PTSD and other related struggles? ... Please ask me, or any military member, how our life has improved before you make assumptions - actions speak louder than words. (If it matters, I'm a Republican)

Question 1: For which Presidential ticket do you plan to vote this November?
Question 2: What do you believe best describes the way US history is taught in schools today?
how history is taught in schools today was a tough one when I am not in school and I don't have parents. Probably the easiest "I'm not sure" answer I have had to give for Tina. Hopefully the parents of students and students can enlighten me!
Trump / Pence
Biden / Harris

As per my usual comments, I feel the choices for the history question didn’t quite work for me. I put “too positive” but I mostly mean “too myopic”. I actually think we have more potential as individuals and as a country when we learn history in the context of the world and in the context of the failures of the past. We can do so much better that way than by plugging our ears and just saying “America good”.
Also, the only things I learned about world history were some stuff about Mesopotamia and US involvement in the world wars. I think it would’ve been cool to learn a little bit more about historic trends around the world!
The way U.S. History is taught seems to largely depend on what state you live in. Textbooks companies print different versions of the same textbooks based on what content a given state wants in the textbook. As such, a student learning history in CA will learn a different version of history than a student in TX.
Regardless of where you live, however, U.S. History is heavily mythologized and on a whole, the curriculum often downplays or outright erases the version of events that threatens that mythology. It’s incumbent upon us to ensure that we confront these truths from an early age, no matter how uncomfortable they might make us feel. (Shoutout to Mrs. B from MHS for always providing us students with a truly holistic history education!)
I think growth comes from critical feedback. Whether that’s for a person or a country. I can still love my country while wanting it to be better. I think true patriotism should include acknowledging past faults and failures rather than a belief of infallibility.
I was a public school teacher for 5 years and have my M.Ed, and the history in schools question drove me wild. A lot of American history is supposed to be taught in elementary school, and joke is on anybody who thinks that the average elementary school still teaches history. Even many middle schools do not anymore. Rather, time that is supposed to be for history is spent teaching to the state tests.
Question 3: Do you think you’ll get the seasonal flu vaccine this year?

Haven't gotten a flu shot in years so not about to change that now...
Also haven't had a flu shot since the big scare on 1975 or 76. No shots since and have never gotten the flu.
But then…
already got my flu shot
Question 4: Which of the following have you purchased more recently?
Question 5: On a scale of 0 (the worst) to 10 (the best), how are you doing overall?
This is an average of 7.2, consistent with last week’s number.
I was a mental 7 but a physical 4 so I went with 6. The "one bourbon, one scotch, one beer" methodology failed me last night, and all day today.
I’ll admit I’ve never heard of that methodology…
After ending up in the ER last night with an allergic reaction, not feeling my usual 7 or 8 for the week😕
Yikes. Hope you’re feeling better.
