April 23, 2020.
It’s Thursday morning, which is almost Friday, which is almost the weekend, which almost doesn’t even matter anymore. A lot of you wished me a Happy Hump Day yesterday, which was very kind, but now I feel bad I didn’t say it first.

Question 1: How likely do you think it is that the COVID-19 outbreak will cause a recession?
We are, unfortunately, waiting for a recession.
Question 2: How likely do you think it is that the COVID-19 outbreak will cause financial struggles for you and your household?
Personal economic anxiety is elevated, but we seem cautiously optimistic that we’ll be okay personally.
Question 3: Which of these things will be considered part of “normal”, everyday life after COVID is contained?
We expect to eventually be eating in restaurants, attending concerts and sporting events and going to the movies again — but we expect to do those things while wearing masks and never shaking hands. And we’ll be working from home too.
Question 4: What’s been your experience with video chat applications?
More than half of our users have *just* started using video chat applications regularly during the quarantine. This is a new world.
How do you like video chats?
So much controversy in this follow-up question. Many didn’t feel it adequately captured all the scenarios: we like video conferences for work, but we would rather be with friends in person; video chats around okay for short meetings, but not great for family game nights and holiday dinners; I’d like to work from home most days but go into the office sometimes. There’s so much more to ask here. Next week, we’ll ask more questions on topics like video chatting and the future of working and socializing.
Question 5: Should the United States adopt mail-in voting for all voters in all 50 states?
Lots of support for vote by mail and gifs like the one below.
