Good Thursday Morning.
From someone in the Tinaverse:
I’m having a fantastic day today and I really hope everyone else is too.
Love this. Glad to hear it — and I hope so too! From someone else in the Tinaverse:
be kind
Please do. In the immortal words of Jewel, “in the end, only kindness matters”.

Question 1: The 17th Amendment, ratified in 1913, gave the people power to elect their two Senators. Previously, state legislatures selected their states’ two Senators. Who do you believe should select US Senators?
Trump / Pence
Biden / Harris
Undecided
Third Party
The repealing the 17th amendment argument has some compelling arguments. The problem is with the corner cases, like Wisconsin, where the Republicans represent 46% of the state’s voters but hold 71% of the seats in the state’s legislature in an extreme example of gerrymandering.
Interesting that you asked about the election of Senators. The Senate desperately needs to change, but from a different angle - the fact that every state, regardless of size, has equal representation in the senate, means that "the Senate gives more voting power to white America, and less to everybody else." NYMag's recent piece "The Senate Is America’s Most Structurally Racist Institution" by Jonathan Chait covers this in more detail.
The Senate was originally intended to “cool the passions” of the House, but since 1917 has become just as partisan and polarized. Want to actually see some semblance of democracy in this country? Get rid of the Senate, expand the size of The House, get rid of the Electoral College, and uphold the principle of “one person, one vote.”
Question 2: One member of the Tinaverse wants to know: Would you consider buying an electric car?
Trump / Pence
Biden / Harris

Question 3: We asked parents in the Tinaverse to rate, on a scale of 1 (very poorly) to 5 (very well), how things are going so far for their children as they return to school and daycare.
The results were pretty good! An average of 3.7.
I'm a believer in the hybrid school model. I really don't want to leave less advantaged kids two years behind, but I understand the safety concern. It should ultimately be the parents' decision, and for those who need in person school, we have to give schools the resources to execute it safely. That likely means federal funding to avoid leaving the poor behind. Kids don't control the lives into which they are born.
Question 4: Is cheesecake a cake or pie?
Cheesecake is a cake. It says so right in its name!
You’re not wrong.
Cheesecake is cake. It has cake in the name. Debate settled.
Is it really settled, though?
The name cheesecake is misleading. It's basically a pie without crust on top.
See? Maybe it’s not settled. Other folks were disappointed that tart wasn’t an option.
My definition of pie is a dessert that has a crust, with fruit inside. Cheesecake does not meet this definition-- therefore, it is a cake.
How does the graham cracker not constitute a crust? Also, how would your “definition” assess the (Pennsylvania Dutch favorite) shoofly pie, a molasses crumb cake baked in a pie crust?
I never thought if Cheesecake is a cake or pie. It's like its totally own thing lol However, I order from this place that has pie of the day...and a few weeks ago it was a cheesecake. (It was really good.) Damn you though. I decided to start weight watchers on Monday and now really really really want whatever pie the restaurant has. Yesterday it was White Chocolate Peanut Butter.
Shoot. Sorry! In that case, cake and pie both suck. Salads are way better. (Good luck!)
Omg I hate that cheesecake question, I grudgingly chose cake because there was no other option, you monster. Cheesecake is its own thing. I will die on this hill.
Omg, you’re a monster.
Thank you for sharing the “fun question” results by party lines. Forget Suburban Moms in PA, or Latinos in FL, its all about the Pie vote thats gonna win this election!
