Good Wednesday Morning.
Two quick editorial notes, based on feedback and suggestions from the Tinaverse.
Going forward, we’ll be separating out Undecided voters in our results breakdowns. As one user noted, how Undecided voters decide to vote may determine who wins the election.
We try to end each day with a fun, non-political question, and we’ve not broken down those results by your 2020 presidential vote. One user suggested that we should, as it may show that we’re not all that different. We did that for the cake / pie question at the end of yesterday’s survey (results below), and we’ll do it from time to time going forward.
We’ve also got some questions today. Click on the Let’s Talk button to get started.

Climate change is not a national security issue. But movements that will weaken our country’s energy independence certainly are.
I'm a one issue voter. My issue is to avoid the extinction of the human race. You can call me an anti-apocolypser. apocalypse Seriously though, it's really surprising to me that people still conflate temporary weather conditions with long term climate patterns. The President just did it, and I'm glad he was corrected in real time. We're on track with the worst case predictions for climate change. We need to vote for the planet in the next election.
Question 2: I have seen effects of climate change in my community.
Trump / Pence
This is an average of 1.9.
Biden / Harris
This is an average of 3.9.
Third Party
This is an average of 2.8.
Undecided

Growing up on the coast, I find myself frustrated with the attitude toward climate in the Midwest (where I now live). The vast majority of my well-educated, intelligent, thoughtful Midwestern raised friends nevertheless think that they are rather insulated from climate change. While that's true in the sense of not directly having the impacts of the West's wildfires or the South's hurricanes, they seem to be ignoring the fact that the Great Lakes are rising too...not to mention that, despite being an area rife with agriculture, the Midwest is still dependent upon the West for a lot of produce needs.
Question 3: The federal government should do more to encourage new sources of energy, including nuclear energy.
Trump / Pence
This is an average of 3.6.
Biden / Harris
This is an average of 4.5.
Third Party
This is an average of 4.2.
Undecided

Ehhh the energy question was tricky. Was that on purpose? I’m not like, totally opposed to nuclear but would much prefer to see government investment in less dangerous energy that is community based. The beautiful thing about solar and wind is that communities can own their energy (before all of the “but actually” dudes jump in - yes, we need better batteries. Yes we need to research to get renewables that can be made from more sustainable materials. Yes we need to update the grid so that people under different weather conditions can access power generated in different areas). Nuclear is another corporate owned power source that can be monopolized. We need to move away from that.
I think free market solutions are the best way to combat climate change. No amount of increased government bureaucracy will fix it. The private sector is responding better than the government ever could. Even oil companies are developing alternative fuel sources because there is an opportunity for new business. Government needs to get out of the way of businesses that want to explore new efficient technology and help developing countries develop their own clean energy methods. Helping combat climate change will help slow illegal immigration as well since many immigrants are being forced from their homes due to rising oceans and other climate actions. Improved situations in other countries will help the United States as well. There are republicans who are working hard to help with climate action cuz they realize it’s a bipartisan issue.
Question 4: You're ordering dessert. What's your move: cake or pie?
Trump voters prefer cake while Biden voters prefer pie, but only slightly.
Trump / Pence
Biden / Harris
Third Party
Undecided
Undecided voters are not undecided on pie!
Cake: Flourless please. Chocolate ganache. Or maybe lemon. Or pie. Yeah, a "kitchen sink" of all kinds of berries and other fruit. Warm. With homemade vanilla ice cream. Gotta go, my kitchen is calling...
You didn’t exactly answer the question, but that’s okay.
Which has peanut butter in it, the cake or the pie? That's the one I am going with
Apple pie with shredded cheddar cheese on top!!! ... don't knock it until you try it
Wait, what? That can’t be. It just can’t… Or can it?
Many of you also mentioned cheesecake, but that appears to be the source of some more controversy.
Cheesecake. End of story. Cake wins.
I chose pie because I’m ordering Cheesecake. It’s a pie, not a cake.
Perhaps “is cheesecake cake or pie?” is the dessert to the “is a hot dog a sandwich” main course?
Mud pie and a good cheesecake with oreo cookie crust show that cake and pie aren't always mutually exclusive?
Love this. Bringing everyone together. Can’t cake and pie just get along?
Make it all the way through but forget to answer today’s questions?
