May 1, 2020.
Happy Friday. We made it through another week, and that’s always worth celebrating.
Some of you have reached out in the last few days to express some frustration with the data visuals - particularly the order in which the results are presented. Unfortunately, it’s a limitation of Typeform, which is powering our surveys. I’m looking for a way to improve, so bear with me!
Until then, click on the Let’s Talk button to get started on our last questions of the week.

Question 1: Which boy band is your favorite?
Backstreet Boys outsold *NSYNC, but because Justin Timberlake became such a popular solo artist (thanks to his relationship with Britney Spears, obviously), it always felt to me like *NSYNC had more cultural resonance. Not so with our participants.
We also had a smattering of votes for O-Town, 98 Degrees and (as a write-in) Hanson.
Question 2: Have you watched any episodes of "The Last Dance", ESPN's documentary series about Michael Jordan's last season with the Chicago Bulls??
“The Last Dance” surpassed “Tiger King” as the most ‘in-demand documentary series’ in the world. Our users are split down the middle, with just under half saying they have no intention of watching it.
This feels like a good time to share this: In third grade, our teacher gave us an assignment where we had to write a short story about someone ‘being a good friend’. I wrote ten pages of NBA historical fan fiction retelling the story of Michael Jordan’s famous ‘flu game’. Realizing too late I didn’t actually do the assignment, I remembered this picture and weaved into my story how great of a friend Scottie Pippen was to MJ.
So I guess I’ve always been this cool?
Question 3: Do you pay more, less or about the same amount of attention to news & politics as you did prior to the coronavirus outbreak?
Though we’re consuming the same (or more) amount of news as before, there seems to be a strong desire amongst our users to consume less.
As one of our anonymous users noted:
I am not proud of reading more news. We live in hyper news cycles. Fox, CNN, and others can greatly steer how society thinks. We should consume less news. My days are longer and my mind more clear when I consume less news. Most of the stuff in news tv is political-spun opinion-based garbage anyway. Where is Peter Jennings, Dan Rather, and Tom Brokaw when you need him?!? I think he died. I just aged myself. I need a beer.
Dan Rather and Tom Brokaw are both still alive, and both have been embroiled in scandals of their own, but the larger point remains.
Maybe the real question is — Where’s Ron Burgundy when you need him?
Question 4: Are you spending more, less or about the same amount of money on food as you were before the quarantine?
Folks had different experiences here. Some said that eating at home more (rather than dining out) has saved money, while others have pointed out that prices in grocery stores have gone a bit higher - particularly for the harder-to-get items.
Question 5: What has been your main source of food during the quarantine: home-cooked meals or takeout? And if you're cooking more, are you trying new recipes or cooking old favorites?
Lots of home cooking, with the comforts of old favorites leading the way.
