Good Friday Morning.
Without getting into the specifics, I was rather old when I learned august was not just a month and a Taylor Swift song — but also an adjective meaning “marked by dignity or grandeur”. I’m going to make it my mission to use the word once a day, every day, for the rest of the month.
Yesterday, we shared this comment from one member of the Tinaverse:
Is there anyone who's feeling 8/10+? Would like to know their secret.
And as expected, the Tinaverse delivered:
Re: Is there anyone who's feeling 8/10+? Would like to know their secret. (Serious answer) My secret is literally a combination of prioritizing my mental health above all, ignoring opinion and listening to reference facts, staying in touch with friends and family, finding new alcoholic beverages, encouraging a strong healthy sex life for my wife and I, and finally if it/they doesn’t add benefit or joy to my life I eliminate/discourage interactions. Also, I remind myself daily that most of the world has it far far worse than I do. Although that is a sad thought, it makes me grateful for the life (and its bumps) I have.
We’ve got some questions to end the week. Click on the Let’s Talk button to get started.

Until we can get a Tina sign for your window or front lawn or a Tina bumper sticker for your car, why don’t you share Tina with a family member or friend or that one neighbor who annoys the hell out of you.

Question 1: Would you support or oppose eliminating the filibuster in the US Senate?
I feel like it should go back to the rules of someone has to stand there and read the entire works of Herman Melville or whatever and can’t sit down a la Leslie Knope in Parks and Rec. I think the filibuster is generally annoying, but can be a very important way for a legislator to make a protest based on their moral stance. I’m more in favor of making sure that legislation can pass with a simple majority.
I fear that perceptions of the filibuster depend on who is using it.
Question 2: Do you have a favorable or unfavorable view of the Obama Administration?
The Biden Campaign has spent this campaign trying to link itself to President Obama, so we wanted to know how the Tinaverse views the Obama Administration — and what type of impact the Tinaverse believes Joe Biden had as Vice President on the Administration.
Question 3: On a scale of 1 (no impact at all) to 5 (significant impact), how much of an impact do you believe Joe Biden had as Vice President on decisions made by the Obama Administration?
We broke down the results of this question based on the way folks answered the previous question. We wanted to see if view of the Obama Administration is correlated with the perceptions of Biden’s impact and influence.
Those with a favorable view of the Administration believe Biden had a bit more influence than do those with an unfavorable view or no strong view.
Favorable view of the Obama Administration
Unfavorable view of the Obama Administration
No strong view of the Obama Administration
Is this a joke regarding the Obama administration? Eight years of suffering, his term is long over. Move on lefties! I challenge anyone on this platform to name three things that moron did for this country during his eight years. And Joe Biden - what impact did he have? Zero should have been a choice. I have to say these questions are getting more and more disturbing. It’s really a disgrace and insulting to people in the middle or are to the right.
Disturbing? Yikes! We’re just out here slinging questions and hoping people answer them. It sounds like you’re pretty firmly in the “unfavorable” camp on the Obama Administration and the “no impact at all” camp on Biden’s impact…?
But obviously, we don’t want to insult anyone and we definitely don’t want to be a disgrace. Thanks for participating anyway.
Question 4: Have you started preparing in any way (e.g. purchasing food, stocking up on supplies) for a virus surge and tighter lockdown restrictions this fall?
Not a lot of preppers in the Tinaverse!
My family in the south now has multiple members who have tested positive for covid and are symptomatic. We are not near the end of this... I just hope it doesn't take all of 2021 from us!
Sending good thoughts and prayers to your family members.
As soon we we heard Lysol wipes will be in limited supply until 2021 we ordered some!
Haven't started preparing but am definitely still prepared. I never ate those two cases of ramen — watching the carbs...
Before the pandemic, I had no extra groceries in my house. My prep involves having a month's worth just in case someone in my household falls ill, and we cannot make our routine trip. I may have also gotten a concealed carry permit...
Starting to review how much I have of paper goods (toilet paper, paper towels, facial tissues, etc.) and planning to slowly stock up before the fall. Separate issue: effects of Tropical Storm Isaias - Every time we have a major storm, tree limbs break and take down power lines, leaving people with no power for days. Why can’t the power companies and towns start to run power lines underground so they would not be affected every time there is a big storm. My understanding is that they do this in Europe.
This is a good reminder that some members of the Tinaverse are still without power following the storm. Hopefully they’ll be back up and running soon. On the underground power lines, here’s a Popular Science article that summarizes some of the challenges.
Question 5: Finally, if you're going to listen to a recording of one of your favorite songs, which version do you usually prefer?
(Quick note: Those who really couldn’t decide were allowed to select both, so the numbers don’t add up to 100%.)
Depends entirely on the recording. Some live versions show the skill of the musicians and the energy of the event. Others. . .
You need to name names here, friend. Are you trying to say you don’t listen to recordings of Mariah Carey’s New Year’s Eve live performance from 2016-2017?
Make it all the way through but forget to answer today’s questions?
