Happy Friday!
We received an alarming dispatch from out in the Tinaverse:
Some people aren’t receiving the emails anymore just an FYI
Thanks for letting us know! If you’re reading this, it means you’re probably receiving the email. If you’re receiving the emails but someone you know isn’t, let us know.
Sometimes, Tina daily digests can end up in your spam folder (to which we take great offense). Or, if you use Gmail, they might get delivered to your Promotions tab. If that’s so, just click and drag a Tina email over to your main folder — and maybe even star it too. That should help let Google know you’d like your voice to be heard.
If you’re still having problems or you know someone who is, let us know.
We received another alarming dispatch from the Tinaverse:
Hey guys, wanna feel old? Macaulay Culkin turned 40 on Wednesday. You're welcome.
Okay, that one cut deep. Real deep. Whoever said this is banned from the Tinaverse.
The only thing standing between us and the weekend are today’s questions, so click on the Let’s Talk button to get started.
67 days until Election Day.
Share Tina
Until we can get a Tina sign for your window or front lawn or a Tina bumper sticker for your car — and that’s not a joke, we’re looking into it! — why don’t you share Tina with a family member or friend or that one neighbor who annoys the hell out of you.

If someone else invited you to this party and it’s your first time here, why don’t you add your name (or email address) to the guest list and we’ll make sure you get the invite every day.

Question 1: Jacob Blake, a 29-year-old Black man from Kenosha, Wisconsin, was shot in the back by police on August 23. A video of the shooting has gone viral on social media. Have you watched that video?
I didn’t watch/share the video because white victims don’t need recordings of them shared to get care/justice. I answered “I’m not sure” for the positive/negative question although I would have really answered “it’s complex” because cellphones obviously have played a huge role in documenting patterns of violence against black folks but at some point there must be desensitization that occurs and also because of how triggering and unfair it is for videos to be passed around of gruesome one assaults/murders of black folks, all in the name of pleading for something to change and people to care.
I’m sick of media jumping on police arrests/shootings immediately and portraying the victims as choir boys. Jacob Blake has an outstanding warrant for sexual assault. While it doesn’t make it right how the police handled the situation, they need to stop painting pretty pictures of all these people who have criminal records.
Question 2: Do you think sharing videos like that one has a more positive or negative impact on society?
It’s hard to say what the impact of watching these videos is on society as a whole, but surely putting them out there to raise awareness about a pervasive issue is preferable to ignoring them and pretending that these systemic issues don’t exist.
Question 3: One of our community members shared: "I was just laid off due to COVID this week, so I'm wondering if anyone else is in the same boat of a late COVID lay-off?" Have you lost your job during the coronavirus pandemic?
It’s nice to hear someone else has been laid off late. I’m in the application process for a TON of jobs and I’ve received some very nice rejections lol. Glad to know I’m not alone.
You’re definitely not alone. Hang in there.
Question 4: One of our community members wants to know: Would you support or oppose a moratorium on all evictions until the end of the coronavirus pandemic?
This question got a bunch of you talking.
About evictions: I chose I'm not sure because there are two different stories here. A moratorium is fine if we are talking about a government housing eviction. The government can make those decisions for itself. A private landlord unable to collect rent is a totally different story as often times the rent they collect is critical to their income and livelihood. The government should not be able to force an eviction moratorium on a private landlord.
I think there should definitely be a moratorium on evictions, but also cancellation of rent and mortgages for primary residences. Banks can afford to figure this out, regular people can't.
I really do empathize with the struggles people are going through right now due to covid but there's two sides to the eviction story. The landlords, etc. might be depending on that income and might be able to fill that space with someone else or renovating and putting money into contractors' pockets. Pausing evictions just pushes the monetary issue to someone else. Maybe the government needs to step in more to assist those who have lost their jobs.
In fact, we have a landlord in the Tinaverse with some thoughts on this.
As a landlord, I realize the hardship for the tenants however there are no provisions for landlords and our bills do not stop coming just because we are sympathetic. Are property taxes going to suspended or greatly reduced this year for landlords who did not collect rent payments? We don’t have employees, therefore did not qualify for any of the government relief loans!
Question 5: Finally, we'll end on a lighter note. Starbucks started selling Pumpkin Spice Lattes (PSLs) this week, marking the drink's earliest ever release. When should PSL season begin?
Pumpkin spice all year! Halloween all year! Spooky season never ends!
This member, walking into work in August:
Starbucks should sell PSLs all year but charge a premium outside of the months of September to December. That will not only sell more due to the "sale" during the fall but also allow people who are "all about them" to get them any time. Win-win.
This is… brilliant.
For what it’s worth… I’m with the 20%.
