Our new Constitution is established, and has an appearance that promises permanency; but in this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes. — Benjamin Franklin

Question 1: On Monday, the Washington football team announced it would be dropping its name and logo. How do you view this name change?
One of our anonymous users (and former employee of the club) weighs in:
As a former employee of Washington’s Football Club, I am SO happy and relieved they finally decided to do the right thing. I consider myself to be an anti-racist white person, and I have been embarrassed to admit my association with the organization for a while now. I felt it was wrong when I worked there and it was long overdue at this point. I am much more excited to be a fan now..HTT(?)!
No. Sorry. Fly Eagles Fly.
My boyfriend is a huge Red Skins fan and I really hope he takes good care of the stuff he has because any of the new PC pansy political crap is NOT coming into my house. I personally threw away the NFL and all my Jets stuff when they became political with our anthem.
Okay, but to be fair… who wouldn’t throw away Jets stuff? They’re the Jets.
I feel like there's been a distinct lack of Native American voices present in the Redskins discussion, the Land 'O Lakes discussion, and the Chief Wahoo discussion. Do Native Americans actually find these symbols offensive? I don't think anyone's asked. The whole conversation has been dominated by guilty white folk trying to overcorrect by being PC. I would prefer we a) get a tribal take on these symbols and remove/keep them based on what they think and b) accompany the removal of these symbols with additional land rights and aid to Native communities. Otherwise, the promise of removing these symbols is false and empty.
There have been a series of opinion polls on the topic of the years, but the methodologies and ethics have often been challenged, particularly as Indigenous peoples are not a monoculture. Some groups have pushed for the name to change for some time, and Jonathan Nez, President of the Navajo Nation, called Monday “a historic day for all Indigenous peoples around the world”.
One member of the Tinaverse has a message for the franchise’s owner, Daniel Synder:
Sell the team Snyder!
Question 2: What impact, if anything, has COVID had on your relationships with your friends and family members?
Positive impact has been regular zoom sessions with distant family members, which we could have always done before but never had the impetus to initiate. We’ll see if we continue after this is (hopefully...some day) all over.
Re: family relationships, my relationship with my partner and baby daughter (who I am quarantining with) is amazing and wonderful. With my family who has made this political, our relationship is definitely strained. They love sending us conspiracy videos and it always feels like we’re in a Landmine of a conversation every time they want to call and check in on us and the baby.
About 30% of people who said it “depends on the person” say that difference is based on whether they’ve been quarantining together.
Question 3: Should Americans be allowed to donate to political candidates running for office in states where they don't live?
Many comments to this question referenced the Citizens United v. FEC case from 2010:
As long as money is considered free speech (thanks a lot, Citizens United), I’ll continue to make donations to candidates working to get rid of do-nothing incumbents like Mitch McConnell. His largest donor is a Super PAC in Englewood, NJ; if that’s the game he wants to play, then it’s a game I’m happy to play, as well.
Regarding the donations to politicians in places you don’t live - I get that most people live in one state or area for long periods of time and even most of their lives - we are military, we move constantly. It is super normal to me to pick up and move to a new place every 3 years. I call NJ home but I’ve lived in a lot of different places, and when we lived in GA and TX I wanted SO badly for their politicians to DO BETTER! I still keep up with the local politics for the places we used to live. If I had more money, I would probably support more progressive candidates in those areas monetarily! I have love for those communities even though I do not live there anymore.
Question 4: Drive-in movies, concerts and other productions are having a moment, as people look for alternative forms of entertainment in the age of social distancing. Have you gone (or would you go) to a drive-in movie, concert or other production?
Though only a small percentage of people have gone to a drive-in movie or concerts, 100% of those respondents said they felt comfortable enough that they’d go again.
I said no to the drive in concerts only because I don’t want to support that as “normal” - I realize it ultimately won’t be 🤞 ... let’s face it I’ll probably go out of complete boredom though
So… you’re a yes then?
I am not rushing to drive -in concerts or movies because there is still the issue of public rest rooms to deal with. I am not comfortable using a public restroom during the time of COVID-19
Question 5: We'll end with another user-suggested question: Pineapple on pizza. Discuss.
Pineapple on pizza is horrendous!
I’ve always thought that Pizza and Beer pair well together. I don’t put fruit my beer, why would I Fruit my Pizza? That’s a hard No bud.
Like anything else, Pineapple on pizza has its place. For example, there’s a pizza called the Spicy Pig at a local brew house, it has pineapple paired with bacon, smoked ham, and jalapeños. Is is ahhhhh-mazing! But just pineapple, no thanks weirdo.
That’s oddly specific.
